Because of high carbon content,the water quench prone to crack,when so many double liquid quenching(water quench+ oil cooling),small cross section parts with oil queching,this kind of steel in the medium temperature tempering after quenching and normalizing or used in the condition of the surface hardening,mainly used in the manufacture of springs and wear-resistant parts,carbon tool steel wire is basically not adding alloying element of high carbon steel wire,and tool steel wire in the low cost,good cold and hot workability and use a wide range of types of steel,spring steel including high carbon steel wire,high carbon steel wire is one of the types of spring steel wire,the steel wire can produce to spring that called spring steel wire,and high carbon content is called high carbon.
High carbon steel wire in after proper heat treatment or cold drawing hardening,high strength and hardness,high elastic limit and fatigue limit(especially the notch fatigue limit),cutting performance,but the weldability and cold plastic deformation ability is poor.
