304 stainless steel is one of the most common and widely used stainless steel grades. It is an austenitic stainless steel that contains 18-20% chromium and 8-10.5% nickel. This composition gives 304 stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability.
304 stainless steel plate refers to flat-rolled stainless steel products that are between 0.187 inches (4.75 mm) to 4 inches (100 mm) in thickness. Some key characteristics of 304 stainless steel plate include:

Hot Rolled 304 Stainless Steel Sheet:
Produced by passing the sheet through rollers at elevated temperatures (often over 1000°C)
The hot rolling process is faster and less expensive than cold rolling
Typical thickness range is 1 mm to 6 mm
Has lower tensile and yield strength compared to cold rolled
Surface has a more uneven, mill-scale appearance
Looser dimensional tolerances and surface imperfections
Generally less formable than cold rolled sheets
